Cascais, 4 July 2007 - In the frame of the 2008 Olympic Pathway Solidarity Programme, 470 Internationale has promoted two initiatives aimed to help 470 sailors admitted to such programme (namely Philippines, Malaysia, Guatemala, US Virgin Islands, Republic of South Africa, Hong Kong, India and Chile) in their Olympic campaign towards the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing: a training camp and a coaching service respectively before and during the 2007 ISAF Combined World Championships.
The training camp is conducted by ex Olympic Sailor and First Vice President of the 470 Internationale, Miss. Marta Weöres from Hungary, and is now underway in Cascais. The training camp gives the sailors advices on:
- learning to set up the boat to different weather conditions;
- improving boat handling skills;
- improving tactical and racing skills;
- improving the understanding and the application of the RRS
The daily programme provides with a meeting each morning when the boats are tuned for the daily weather conditions and for the specific needs of each crew, followed by two training sessions on the water (with a short break for lunch) and by an afternoon meeting during which the activities of the day are analyzed also with the help of images taken during the on the water sessions.
The coaching service will be provided during the racing days and comprises a debriefing meeting after the races in order to analyze each crew’s performances.
Both the training camp and the coaching service have been made possible by the great support of the 2008 Olympic Pathway Solidarity Programme sponsor, Dolphin Maritime ( http://www.dolphin-maritime.nl/) which provides 470 Internationale with the rib used by Marta Weöres during the training camp and the championship.
