ISAF Sailing World Championships - 470 Class

4-13 July 2007- Cascais, Portugal

Heavy winds keep 470’s on the boatpark

Cascais, 9 July 2007 - There was too much wind today at the ISAF Sailing World Championships for all classes to go out on the water. Sailors waited until 18:30 until the final decision was made to cancel further racing for the day.

An important change in the 470 Women’s results was made after the disqualification of Giulia CONTI and Giovanna MICOL from Italy, who lost a protest posted by the Dutch Team Lisa WESTERHOF and Merel WITEVEEN for not keeping clear (Rule 11).

The Italian and Dutch Ladies were caught up in a tight battle for the first place in race four that was finally won by the Italian. CONTI and MICOL move down from an overall second to an sixteenth place after four races.

The day of tomorrow was put on the schedule as a reserve day, but will now be filled with the last day of the qualification series, which needs at least five races.

Both the 470 Men and Women will have only one race in order to finalize the qualifications, where after also discards will become effective.

Schedule for tomorrow:
470 Women: 16:20 – Race Area 5
470 Men: 17:00 – Race Area 4
